Fresh facts have emerged over the killing of a lady at 7, Middle Road, Sabon Gari, Kano, northwest Nigeria.

Sources around the scene of the incident told P.M. NEWS this evening that Auwalu Muhammed was a local Guard at a building within the compound.

A reliable security source told our correspondent that the incident happened on 9 March, 2012.

“The man in question (Auwalu) was a Mai Guard in that compound. He used to sleep on a mat in an open place beside No. 7, Middle Road.

“Records in our file show that Auwalu and the lady he killed were all drug addicts and they could also be friends. The lady was lying on Auwalu’s mat when the incident happened.”

An area boy who witnessed the killing said it happened in the afternoon.

“Auwalu had asked the lady to excuse him from his mat, but the lady refused. As they were quarreling over the mat, the lady hit Auwalu with a stick and then the man brought out his jack knife and killed the lady. We immediately informed the police who came and evacuated the body and arrested the killer,” the Area Boy added.

Though the identity of the lady is yet to be known, security operatives believe that she could hail from Maiduguri.

“I must tell you that most of this frustrated ladies who are victims of divorce, forced marriages and failed marriages from Maiduguri, Adamawa, Jos and other states, particularly, from the northeast seek solace in Kano.

“A good number of them are prostitutes and drug addicts whose identities could be very hard to ascertain. They do not have a home. They sleep whereever the night meets them and even in the day time, it is a common sight to see them lying beside gutters on streets such as Abedi, Enugu Road, Middle Road, Weather Head, among other dangerous streets within Sabon Gari,” said the source from Bompai Police Headquarters.

P.M.NEWS recalls that on Tuesday evening, Kano state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Musa Magaji Majiya in a statement said Auwalu was arrested through a tip-off at the scene of the incident.

Majiya stated that the police recovered a ‘blood stained knife’ from the suspect at the scene as exhibit, pointing out that the accused has since confessed to the crime during preliminary investigation.
