Restaurant Attendant Kills Customer Over N10 Change

A 21-year-old restaurant attendant, Bright Effiong, was on Tuesday charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly killing his customer over N10 change.

The accused is standing trial on a one-count charge of murder.

The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh, told the court that the accused was an employee of a restaurant at 20, Salami Bashorun St., Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

Momoh said that on February 23, 2012 at about 11 a.m., the deceased, Chibuike Onyekachi, 24, had gone to the restaurant to eat.

She said after eating, the deceased was told that his bill was N100, but he disagreed, stating that his bill was N90 and demanded for his N10 change.

Momoh told the court that the argument led to a fight between the accused and the deceased at the restaurant.

The prosecutor said during the fight, the deceased fell down unconsciously and died on the way to the hospital.

The plea of the accused was not taken.

Magistrate M.O. Tanimola ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The case was adjourned till May 5 for trial.
