Lagos Junior League: Premier League Round Up

Organisers of the just concluded Premier League of the Lagos Junior League say it’s the most amazing thing to happen to youth football in Nigeria.

A total of 91 games were played in the Premier League after which the Nath Boys Sport Club emerged champions with 33 points after 13 games. Ikorodu West FC were the runners-up, while Apapa Golden Stars came third.

In all 91 matches played, 251 goals were scored by 96 players. This gives an average of 2.76 goals per match higher than the Nigerian Premier League and just slightly lower than that of the English Premier League.

Alade Muyiwa of Lagos Island East scored 15 goals to emerge the Highest Goal Scorer, Ibrahim Abiodun of Apapa Golden Stars scored 13 goals to claim the second spot, while Aminu Abubakar of Nath Boys came third with 11 goals.

The match between Badagry West FC and Oshodi Isolo FC recorded the highest goals scored in a single game . Oshodi won 10-0. Apapa Golden Stars also demolished Lagos Mainland United 9-1 another thrilled match.

Nath Boys Sport Club were the best behaved team with just 5 yellow cards and no red card throughout the competition.

Nath Boys Sport Club conceded the least number of goals in the league with only 8 goals slipping their back-line, while Ikorodu West conceded only 9 goals.

Apapa Golden Stars scored 39 goals this season. They were the highest scoring team in the league. Nath Boys scored 38 goals to be the second highest scoring team.

It is worthy of note that the Lagos Junior League did not record any case of crowd violence or assault of match officials.
