Okorocha To Receive Award In Lagos
Igbo in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have concluded plans to give an award of excellence to the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his outstanding performance since he became the governor.
The award will hold on Saturday, 24 March, 2012 at the National Stadium, Sururere Lagos.
Apart from Okorocha, other distinguished Igbo to be honoured include the former governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, Director, Chisco Motors, Chief Mike Umeh, among others.
The event, co-sponsored by Fidelity Bank Plc, is to honour people, indigene and non indigene, who have played positive roles in developing the society.
The President of the Igbo Community in Lagos State, Chief Ebere Ubani, said the award will be a source of inspiration and encouragement for such people to do more and others to emulate them bearing in mind that they will be recognized by the community.
Ubani explained further that the programme was aimed at repositioning Igbo in the state.
He said the organisation intends to put up an edifice in Lagos to serve as its office, adding that it will do more to bring unity among the people.
The occasion will witness traditional and cultural dances of Igbo speaking people.
