Five days after Mrs Asime Sekibo, wife of Senator George Thompson Sekibo, of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers East Senatorial district, was kidnapped, she has regained freedom.

She was taken hostage Thursday last week at Obiri Ikwerre, along the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)-East-West road in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed A. Indabawa, confirmed to P.M.NEWS on phone Monday evening that she had been set free but refused to give further details.

“Yes I can confirm to you that the Senator’s wife has been released and she is back to the family. That is the much I can tell you for now,” he said.

It was not clear at press time the details about how she was released. It was not also clear whether ransom was paid by the Senator as demanded by the abductors or security agents forcefully effected her freedom.

It has been a big challenge getting across to the Senator to react to the suspicion of some security sources that the boys the Senator used to actualise his dream of winning the re-run election after his earlier victory was annulled by the Court of Appeal led by Justice Mohammed Dattijo, on 7 December 2011, allegedly masterminded her abduction.
