Disowns 10 Suspected Cultists

The authorities of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have disowned ten students arrested for allegedly being in possession of a gun by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

According to a statement signed by LASU’s acting Director, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Dr. Sola Fosudo, only one of the suspects, Olupooye Funsho Alade is a 400-level Political Science student of LASU.

In the rejoinder, Fosudo said in the body text of P.M.NEWS story published on Thursday, 15 March, 2012, only three of the 11 suspects claimed to be students of LASU.

But the university’s records revealed that only Olupooye with matriculation number 080631050 was identified as a bonafide student of LASU.

Meanwhile the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa has said that the institution is set to reposition for academic excellence.

Speaking at a press conference at LASU on Friday, Obafunwa said the institution commence repositioning by appointing key officials into vital positions and renovation of infrastructure.

Reacting to a question on the hike in school fees at LASU, the Acting Director, Centre for Information and Public Relations Dr. Sola Fosudo said fee hike was not peculiar to LASU adding, “any student who did not pay his/her fees, sit for lectures or has correct matriculation number should not be regarded as a student of the institution.”

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor has approved the appointment of Professor Dapo Folorunsho Asaju as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic of LASU, in acting capacity.

The appointment subsists from 19 March to 28 December, 2012.

Formerly acting Head of Department of Religions and Philosphy, Asaju joined LASU in 1984 and became a Professor of Christian Studies in 2004.

Until his recent appointment, Asaju was director, LASU Consult.
