Land Waiver: Fashola Vows To Press Criminal Charges Against Workers
Civil servants in the Lagos State Civil Service are in for another shocker as Governor Babatunde Fashola has vowed to press criminal charges against civil servants who dubiously lie on oath in order to obtain waiver or rebate for land after they had previously enjoyed such privilege.
Fashola, in an Executive Order issued on 15 March, 2012 and signed by him stated that the government would now regulate request for discounts, rebate or waiver on cost of land allocated to public servants.
According to Fashola, a staff of the state public service who applies for and is allocated a state land might only seek a discount, rebate or waiver of related costs up to a maximum of 40 per cent on one plot of land only.
“Application for this concession is to be made to the governor through the Heads of relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs and shall only be granted if the applicant has not enjoyed such a concession at any time in respect of other state land,” he said.
Fashola ordered that all applications made shall be accompanied by a sworn affidavit deposed to before a person authorized by the oaths act to administer an oath.
Fashola ordered that the affidavit to be sworn to by the applicant should include that: “I (name) confirm that I have not previously enjoyed any rebate, waiver, discount or other type of concession in respect of the cost of any state land previously allocated to me by the Lagos State Government.
“If the foregoing deposition turns out to be false, I agree to forfeit to the Lagos State Government all other plots of land in respect of which I have previously received a discount, rebate or waiver.
“I am fully aware that a false deposition also renders me liable to criminal proceedings.”
