NPL: Rangers Retain Top Spot

Enugu Rangers yesterday regained leadership of the Nigeria Premier League, NPL, after they came from behind to beat Akwa United 2-1 as Pillars fell at Gombe.

Rangers are back at the summit of the NPL with 29 points, while Pillars slipped to third place following a 1-0 loss at Gombe United.

Enyimba defeated Rising Stars 1-0 in Aba to climb to second place also on 29 points.

Rangers leading scorer Chikeluba Ofoedu opened scoring for ‘The Flying Antelopes’ in the 28th minute to take his goals tally to seven. The home win was sealed by Haliru Umar’s 58th minute strike.

Ofoedu said he was delighted his team are back on top of the league table.

“It was a good match and I am happy to be part of the success, we are back on top and we need to maintain our winning form to win the title,” he said.
