Defending champions, TC Terrors, last year’s runners up, Leads United and six other teams have signified their interest in the 5th Promasidor Parasoccer Tournament, which will hold in Lagos State during the Easter break next month.
Other teams that will feature in the tourney are NAS Warriors, Premium Sports, Kwara State United, teams from Plateau, Adamawa and Nassarawa states.
This year’s edition, which is packaged and organised by Total Consult in conjunction with the Lagos State Paralympic Association, will be played on round robin basis to give the participating teams the opportunity of playing a minimum of three matches in the tournament.
The Tournament Coordinator, Idowu George, said: “The opening day of the competition has now been shifted forward to include Thursday, preceding the usual Good Friday opening day in previous editions. The teams will be divided into two groups and each team in the groups will play three matches on the first day (Thursday). Thus, a total of six matches will be played on that day.
“The same thing will happen on Good Friday, at the end of which four teams will qualify for the semi-finals on Saturday.
“Sunday is rest day as the usual practice, while the duel between the two finalists and the third-place match will hold on Easter Monday.”
George said that the organisers of the tournament, which is sponsored by Promasidor Nigeria, maker of Cowbell, is working round the clock to ensure that the competition is better packaged this year.
T.C Terrors Parasoccer Club beat Tayo Popoola -sponsored Leads United to win the 4th edition of the tourney last year at the Unilag Sports Centre in Lagos.
The third-place match was won by Baba Maigoro from Adamawa State who beat Kwara State team 3-1.
