FIFA U-17 Women World Cup: NFF Plans Training Tour For Flamingoes

Having qualified for the under 17 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Azerbaijan in September, Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has promised the Nigerian U-17 female team, popularly called the Flamingoes, a training tour in the next few months to prepare them for the tournament.

The Peter Dedevbo-tutored team were in terrific form last Saturday as they walloped hapless She – Polopolo of Zambia by 5-0 in Abeokuta to qualify for the biennial tourney in an emphatic 7-1 on aggregate.

In an exclusive interview with P.M Sports after the match, the NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu, said that the team still have a long way to go to meet the required standard, adding that the football house would arrange a training tour for the team to put them in great shape before the World Cup.

He said: “We are glad that Flamingoes have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in Azerbaijan in September and as the tradition of NFF, we will ensure that the team get adequate preparation for the tournament.

“There is a strong possibility that the team will go on a training tour for a month before the tournament. The Flamingoes were in the United States before heading to the last tourney in Trinard & Tobago, where they crashed out in the quarter – final stage.”
