20 Charged With Environmental Offences

Twenty tenants residing at 6, Asamadi Close, Ajangbadi, Ojo Local Government Area have been charged to court for environmental offences.

The local government council dragged the accused to Ojo Customary Court for allegedly failing to tidy up their surroundings, empty their pit latrine and use refuse disposal PSP operator.

They were also alleged to have failed to provide a waste bin for the house, among other offences.

When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty. One of them, Mr. Steven Okafor told the court that he does not share the same toilet with other occupants.

He was released while others were not so lucky. They were fined N10,000 each and were asked to construct a septic tank before 10 April, 2010, the next adjourned date.

In another development,six occupants of 201, Masebinu Street, Ajagbadi were also dragged to court by the local government for the same offences. They also pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

The president of the court fined each of them N5,000 and directed them to build a septic tank before 5 April, 2012, the next adjourned date.
