Gunmen Kill Police Inspector In Maiduguri

Suspected Boko Haram militants on Wednesday killed a police inspector while shopping at the Gamboru market in Maiduguri.

The name of the inspector is yet to be known.

Some traders, who were eye witnesses, told newsmen in Maiduguri that, the unnamed inspector was shot dead by a group of two teenagers who disguised as shoppers in the market.

“The whole thing happened in a very short time. Apparently, the gunmen had trailed the inspector to the market after he left his office around 3.30 p.m.

“Unknown to him, the boys were following him closely until they got to a shop by the corner where it was convenient for them to shoot him,” one of the traders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

He added that the attackers fired close shots at the victim before dispersing in different directions to escape arrest.

Mr Samuel Tizhe, the spokesman of the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the killing, saying that the police had already launched investigation into the issue.

Tizhe also confirmed the killing of two civilians on Tuesday near the Premier Cinema, Maiduguri, saying that the police was also investigating the case.
