Imoke Swears In New Commissioners

Senator Liyel Imoke, Governor of Cross River State, Thursday swore in the newly appointed commissioners and special advisers at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor’s Office in Calabar.

Those sworn in include Barr. Attah Ochinke, Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Oyo-Ita, Dr. Sandy Ono, Mr. James Aniyom, Rev. Costakis Etim Caiafas, Engr. Elemi Etowa, Mr. Patrick Ugbe, Chief Peter Ojie, Prof. Offiong Offiong, Mr. Akin Ricketts, Engr. Bassey Oqua, Barr. Legor Idagbo, Mrs. Edak Iwuchukwu, Surveyor Ralph Uche, and Barr. Inyang Patricia Endeley

The special advisers are Mr. Fred Osim, Barr. Edem Ekong, Mrs. Francisca Nkoyo Effiom, Prof. Ndem Ndiyo Ayara, Mr. John Eyikwaje, Mr. Odo Effiong, Dr. Iyam Ugot, Mr. Gerald Ada and Dr Tom Ogar.

The new commissioners were cleared by the Cross River State House of Assembly which confirmed the nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.

The nominations were made by Governor Imoke and forwarded to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The House Chairman on Judiciary Matters Committee, Ogana Lukpata said the Committee is satisfied that the Governor did not only reflect the diversity of the people of Cross River State but also ensured that the nominees met statutory requirement for being appointed.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Larry Odey, congratulated the Commissioners for their confirmation and charged them to work hard to take the state to the next level of development, noting that they were individually well equipped to justify their appointment.

He reminded them of the need to regularly submit their quarterly reports to the Assembly and warned against accepting excuses of all kinds from Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Odey advised them to work with members of the House of Assembly who will from time to time come for their oversight functions, stating that Committees of the House are the engine room of the Assembly.
