LG Worker Dies After Falling Off WAEC Elevator

An employee of Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, Fatai Olalekan Odeniyi, has died after falling off a moving lift on the 8th floor of the 12-storey building of the West African Examinations Council,WAEC, Yaba, yesterday.

The deceased who was at the WAEC to obtain his certificate, broke his skull immediately he fell off the lift. He was quickly rushed to the staff clinic where he died.

The matter was subsequently reported at Sabo police station, Yaba, while his corpse has since been deposited at the mortuary.

The father oaf three and an indegene of Osun State, until his death, worked at the Finance Department of the LCDA.

He was said to be in his mid thirties.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, said that the mangled body of the deceased was recovered from the ground floor of the building.

Jaiyeoba said that the victim was said to have fallen off the lift when the doors opened midway on the 8th floor.

He explained that the victim who assumed that the lift had reached its destination, stepped out, fell off and hit the ground.

He added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary while police investigation continued into the matter.
