Businessman Arraigned Over Importation Of Fake Drugs

A Lagos businessman, Nnamdi Ogunna, alleged to have imported fake drugs into the country has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

In a two-count criminal charge Nnamdi Ogunna of 5, Falolu Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos on 15 December, 2010 at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, allegedly imported fake drugs to wit Carueta 100 tablets (sildenafil citrate) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (a ) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Process Foods Act Cap C 34, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 3 (1) (a ) of the same Act.

NAFDAC prosecuting counsel, Mr. Mathas Abutu, further alleged that the imported drugs were not registered by NAFDAC.

The accused pleaded not guilty and consequently, his counsel Barrister Bernard Udemba orally applied for bail but the presiding judge adjourned till next week when the bail of the accused businessman will be considered.
