Siblings In Court For N11m Fraud
The police on Thursday arraigned two siblings, Chinedu Irozuru and Chinedu Chioma both of Jahi village for alleged fraud of N11 million.
The siblings were arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court and they were charged with joint act, criminal intimidation, criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Abdullahi Alhassan, told the court that on March 20, Mr. Chike Uzoama of Plot 98, Onnda Idris Street, Wuye District, Abuja, lodged a complaint against the accused at Utako Police Station.
He said that sometime between June 2009 and 2011, the siblings approached Uzoama and his friends with a business plan.
Alhasssan said that the siblings presented their plan under the pretence of distributing the said money to some traders for a business transaction while the traders in turn would remit the money with interest on a monthly basis.
He said that after some period of time, Uzoama noticed that the money being contributed had been diverted to personal use by the siblings.
According to the prosecutor, all efforts by Uzoama to get back his money proved abortive and when he insisted on getting back the money, the siblings threatened to kill him.
Alhassan said that the sibling’s offence contravened Sections 79, 322, 312 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The siblings pleaded not guilty when the First Information Report was read to them.
Following their plea, the prosecutor asked for adjournment to bring his witness to court and continue with the case.
Chief Magistrate Okeagu Azubike remanded the siblings to prison custody, saying “it will be in the best interest of justice.”
The case was adjourned till May 2 for hearing.
