Stolen Motorcycle Lands Man In Prison Custody

A 23-year old timber contractor, Oluwanisola Alaba, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Akure for allegedly being in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

The accused was said to have committed the offence on March 26, at about 1 p.m. at Arisoyin Street, Akure.

He was accused of being in possession of one Jincheng motorcycle with registration number QR 296 LSD and engine number JCIE 50FMGXPB91022648 and with number LJPAGLHO95039604.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Sakiru Odunjo, the motorcycle was suspected to have been stolen as the accused person cannot provide proof of ownership.

Odunjo said the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 430 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Alaba pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him in Yoruba language and elected summary trial at the court.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Rabi Abdulahi, refused his bail application and ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody till April 17, when the case would come up for hearing.

In another development, a 38-year-old man, Alaba Aribila, was arraigned before an Akure Senior Magistrates’ Court on a one-count charge of stealing.

The accused, a chemical engineer, was alleged to have committed the offence on February 20, 2011 at about 3 p.m, opposite Intercontinental Bank, Alagbaka in Akure.

He was accused of stealing N600,000 belonging to Dada Omoniyi and Fadeyi Oladele.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, ASP. Ayodele Atandeyi, was contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum who must be reliable and responsible.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Charity Adeyanju, adjourned the case till April 17, for report of settlement or definite hearing.
