U-20 Women W/Cup: Nigeria Beat Zimbabwe 3-0

Nigeria’s U-20 Women national team, the Falconets on Saturday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in the first leg, second round match of the 2012 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier.

A brace from Francisca Ordega and one goal by Esther Sunday were good enough to silence the Young Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe.

The opener came in the 25th minute through Ordega, one of the players who graduated from the U-17 national team that featured at the 2010 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

She struck again a minute into the second period with Sunday wrapping it up for Nigeria in the 55th minute.

Her goal came after a perfect combination with midfielder Ngozi Okobi.

With the scoreline, Falconets need a draw in the second leg to qualify for the third round when both teams meet in a fortnight in Harare.

For their effort, the Falconets were rewarded with the sum of N1m by Chief Host and Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The governor, who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Funsho Amosun praised the girls for their performance, and urged them to go for the kill in the return leg.
