Parasoccer Players Storm Lagos For Promasidor Tourney

National Stadium in Surulere will be agog from Thursday tohrough Easter Monday as teams from Lagos and four other states of the federation begin hostilities at the 5th Promasidor Parasoccer Championship.

The tournament, which will be played inside the Gymnasium of the National Institute for Sports, NIS, is sponsored by Promasidor Nigeria Limited and organised by Total Consult, Lagos.

This year’s tourney promises to be exciting and glamorous with at least 80 players from eight teams jostling for the coveted prizes and trophies, which will be given out on Easter Monday, when the competition will be rounded off.

P.M.Sports gathered that all the participating players are to receive the sum of N10,000 each, while the first to third place teams will receive special packages from the organisers.

The eight teams are divided into two groups.

Group A consists of the defending champions, TC Terrors, Plateau State, Kwara State and NAS Warriors, while in Group B are last year’s runners up, Lead United, Premium Sports, Adamawa State and Nassarawa State.

Meanwhile, sponsor of the tourney, Promasidor and the organiser, Total Consult, have promised that this year’s competition will be glamorous.

Andrew Enahoro, Head, Legal and Public Relations, who represented Mr Keith Richards, the Managing Director of Promasidor Nig. Ltd., said at a press conference that the participating teams will be unveiled at Freedom Park, Lagos Island.

He urged fans to come out en masse to watch the best of parasoccer, as a lot of attractive packages await them during the tourney.

Enahoro said Promasidor is sponsoring the competition in order to integrate the physically challenged Nigerians into the day to day life activities in the community.

“This competition is a platform for the physically challenged to exhibit their talents for rewards. It is also the social responsibility of Promasidor to encourage other corporate organisations to do something for the less privileged in the society,” he said.

He assured of Promasidor’s continue support and sponsorship of the Easter Parasoccer Championship.

“The enthusiasm showed by these players since we came in is a motivation for us to continue the sponsorship of the tournament for the physically challenged athletes to contribute their own quota to the nation building,’ he said.

Chief Executive Officer of Total Consult, Theo Lawson, who also sponsors a team, TC Terror, said that fun seekers should come out to watch parasoccer at its best at the National Stadium, adding that “the athletes are ready to thrill their fans to an exciting Easter holiday.”

Chairman of Lagos State Paralympics Association, Dr. Awelenje, commended the sponsor for giving back to the Nigerian society through the tournament.

While commending the media for their support, Dr. Awelenje urged other corporate organisations in the country to emulate Promasidor to give the physically challenged athletes a sense of belonging in the society.
