PMAWCA Election: NPA Moves To Support Ghana
The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Engr. Omar Suleiman has given an assurance that the authority is fully ready to support Ghana in her bid to vie for the position of Secretary General of Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) during the forthcoming election of the sub-regional body.
This was disclosed recently by Engr. Omar while receiving a delegation from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, GPHA, who came to solicit support for its candidate for the position of Secretary General of the association.
Engr. Omar stated the there is need for Ghana and Nigeria to come together for a common goal and work towards the same direction in all affairs of the association.
He stated that PMAWCA as a sub-regional body should work as a team and do away with micro nationality sentiment which promotes Anglophone and Francophone dichotomy within the organization.
He said pollution control, piracy and maritime crimes are critical issues which the organisation should look into and proffer solutions.
The leader of the delegation, Dr. Kofi Mbiah, board members, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Shippers Authority said that PMAWCA, established 40 years ago, has met the expectations of member countries as well as other maritime bodies and as such the need for change through a dynamic Secretary General, a quality possessed by the Ghanian candidate for the post, Mr Michael Luguge, who is presently owith the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and also the international Maritime Organization (IMO) Regional Coordinator for non Francophone West and Central African Countries.
