Student Caught With Stolen Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Pants

A 19-year old secondary school student, Emmanuel Abiodun, was on Monday arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing toothpaste, toothbrush and two pairs of men’s pants, popularly called boxers.

Abiodun, who was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties, pleaded not guilty to stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Victor Eruada, told the court that the defendant who resides in Ebute-Meta area of Lagos, is a secondary school student.

He said that Abiodun on March 26 at Onijemo St., Barrack Bus Stop, Ifako, Gbagada, stole a toothpaste, a toothbrush and two pairs of pants (boxers) from the shop of Abel Akpan.

He said that the defendant was caught by Akpan’s sales boy, who searched the suspect’s bag and saw the items, adding that the defendant was arrested by the police.

He said the offence contravened section 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.

Magistrate S.K. Matepo granted Abiodun bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties.

Matepo adjourned the matter to April 13 for mention.
