Ogunjobi Seeks Football Development

Former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Taiwo Ogunjobi has advocated for grassroots football competition in rural communities in Nigeria.

Ogunjobi stated this during the final of a 5-Aside football competition and inauguration of Sport Academy organised by Babatunde Ayeni, member of the Lagos House of Assembly in Ilesha Grammar School, Osun State.

Ogunjobi noted that for the country to improve and develop in football, there must be an active involvement of all stakeholders to invest in grassroots sports, especially football which has brought international exposure to the country.

The formal Secretary General, who was the Special Guest at the occasion, commended the efforts of Ayeni for promoting football in Osun State. He added that this would further strengthen the relationship between the indigenes and the Government of the State.

”What Ayeni has done in Osun State shows that there is hope for grassroots football in the country. I want to use this medium to appeal to other politicians to get involved in grassroots sports development,” he said.

In his address, Ayeni said the competition started two months ago among various football clubs from different parts of Osun state. According to him, the tourney will be an annual event.

At the end of the competition, Iceberg Football Club emerged champions after they defeated Greater Tomorrow of Ilesha by 2-0.
