Robbers Raid Council Office
The premises Ikpoba-Okha local council, located at Idogbo, Edo State was Friday morning raided by armed robbers who vandalized about 21 office rooms.
The raid forced Council Chairman, Osakpaman Ekpeti to cut short his Easter break to take an on-the-spot assessment of damage and loss done to the council.
The robbers reportedly scaled the low perimeter fence to gain entrance into the premises of the council secretariat at about 1a.m., overpowered the security guards on duty, battering them with gun butts.
One of the battered guards was allegedly dragged from one office to the other the robbers were searching for money and other valuables.
Among offices broken into were those of the treasurer, the senior accountant, head of service, cashier, and head of department in charge of environment.
Ekpeti who confirmed the incident to newsmen said that the bandits reportedly came hoping to get money from the council vaults after workers were paid their salaries as late as 6pm yesterday.
He disclosed that the police assisted in taking the security guards to an undisclosed hospital where they are currently being treated, adding that the wounded security guards might be able to give details of what actually happened after recovery from their injuries.
