Fashola Greets Lagosians at Easter, Calls for Display of True Citizenship
As Christians in Lagos join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate Easter, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), at the weekend called on Lagosians to play their roles as true citizens through love and sacrifice for the general good of the society.
In his Easter Message to residents, Governor Fashola said it is only through love and sacrifice toward the good of society that the people could uphold the legacy of Jesus Christ which is encapsulated in His selfless love and sacrifice on behalf of humanity.
According to Governor Fashola, “The greatest legacy that Jesus Christ left for us is the legacy of love and sacrifice. I believe the best way we can carry on that legacy is to fulfill our obligations to our society.”
Easter, the Governor further noted, “is a period when we engage in sober recollection of the ultimate and selfless sacrifice of love that Jesus Christ made on our behalf,” adding that society requires more expression of love to improve the quality of life of the people.
Stressing that the period calls for deep reflection on what the people’s roles and obligations should be to make the world a better place for posterity, Governor Fashola declared, “We require abundance of love and sacrifice to maintain the harmonious and peaceful co-existence amongst the various peoples in Lagos State for which we have come to be known.”
The Governor pointed out that close to five years now, his administration, with the people’s collaboration, has worked consistently to advance the quality of life of citizens, adding that with the people’s cooperation government has ventured into terrains that have put the state on the front burner of both national and international attention as a model of development, not only for Nigeria but for the African continent.
“We must sustain that pace of development. We must continue to lead from the front in all areas of growth, in order to enjoy the attention that has made our dtate the preferred investors’ destination for the past half a decade. And we must continue to do it together,” the Governor said.
Wishing all Lagosians a happy Easter celebration, Governor Fashola further charged them, “As we reflect on Christ’s legacy of love and sacrifice, let us spare a thought for our dear state and how to contribute to its improvement. Let us show love and let us sacrifice. That way, we can uphold and advance the legacy of Jesus Christ in our society; His legacy of love and sacrifice.”
