Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti has hailed his team’s 2-1 victory over Marseille last weekend as an “important” triumph, and hopes it will be the catalyst for a strong finish to the season.
The 52-year-old was speaking after his side’s hard-fought victory at the Parc des Princes, which took the club level on points with Montpellier at the top of Ligue 1, albeit having played one game more.
“After four matches in all competitions without a win it was important for us to get the victory,” the former Milan coach told reporters after the game. “We started well but it was difficult against Marseille’s pressing game. The atmosphere was great and Jeremy Menez played fantastically well.”
He added: “We have won a very important match for this season. Obviously I hope we’ll be able to reproduce this in our next games, physically, tactically and mentally.
“I hope this win will give us the confidence to get back to playing good football again and show some character.”
