In acknowledgement of Nigeria’s growing profile in wheelchair tennis, the International Tennis Federation, ITF, is sending one of its top developmental officers, Suzie Dyrbus, to Nigeria to help foster the growth of the game in the country.

Dyrbus’ visit scheduled for between 12-15 April is part of the ITF’s Silver Fund Project, which is aimed at developing the game across the world.

President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Sani Ndanusa, informed that while in Nigeria, Dyrbus will intimate coaches and players on the latest tricks about the game which Nigeria ranks among the top nations in Africa.

Ndanusa, who was recently appointed a developmental committee member of ITF Wheelchair Tennis, said Dyrbus’ visit will be of positive effect to the game in Nigeria, noting that the country has high number of potentials who can compete at the highest level of the sport.

National Wheelchair Tennis coach, Frank Tarmena, said the players are looking forward to the visit.

He said the visit would have an identical impact as that of 2005, when Britain’s Mark Bullock, now an ITF Wheelchair Tennis Manager, made a four-day workshop visit to Lagos , where he trained the likes of Beijing 2008 Olympian, Wasiu Yusuf, Jude Uwaize and a host of others who are now ranked among the top ten players in Africa.

Tarmena noted that the visit would help Nigeria to perform at the London Olympics as well as the World Team Cup.
