Nigerian charged with stealing chicken, bone and cheese

A 45-year-old Nigerian, Oharuike Hycent, has appeared before an Abuja Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing chicken, cheese and chicken bones.

The accused, who is the General Supervisor at the Exclusive Stores, Wuse II, Abuja, is standing trial before Magistrate Aliyu Shafa on a two-count charge of joint act and theft. Police prosecutor Monday Akor told the court that one Ozoemena Innocent `M`, who also works at the Exclusive Stores, reported the case to the Maitama Police Station, Abuja, on April 6.

He said the offence was committed on April 6 at about 7.45 a.m. Akor added that the accused, in collaboration with two others now at large, stole chickens, cheese and chicken bones from the store. The value of the alleged stolen items was yet to be estimated. Akor said the offences were contrary to sections 79 and 289 of the Penal Code.

Hycent, who pleaded for bail, denied some of the counts.

Magistrate Shafa granted him N50,000 bail and a surety, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case till April 30.
