Senator Tackles Youth Unemployment
A federal lawmaker, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, has expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to tackle unemployment.
The lawmaker disclosed that he was currently collaborating with the Lagos State Electricity Board, Siemens Power Academy and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on employment generation.
He explained that the initiative tagged: ‘Youth Energy Career Program’ (YECP), would tackle power generation and also create employment opportunities for the teeming population of youths in the country.
He added that the partnership would also provide opportunity for the participating youths to have work experience and practical training in energy development at the Lagos State Electricity Board and Siemens Power Academy.
He disclosed that over 1000 youths applied for the programme and after an aptitude test and series of interviews, candidates who had the best results and also demonstrated the required skills were selected.
“After this programme, successful candidates will have knowledge of electrical engineering principles, protection of electrical networks, operation of smart grid, management of power projects and power plants,” he further disclosed.
He also reaffirmed his plan to work with government and private establishments to “deliver dividends of democracy to the people of his constituency and Lagos State.
