Highway Robbery: Police Kill 7 Suspects
The efforts of the police in Ogun to rid the highways of robbers have yielded results as policemen killed seven robbery suspects in one week, a statement said in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in the statement that the suspected robbers were caught robbing road users in various locations within the state during which they engaged the police in gun duels.
The statement also said 10 suspects linked with various robbery cases along the Lagos-Ibadan and Lagos-Ijebu-Ode-Benin expressways had been arrested.
Adejobi recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okoye Ikemefuna, had ordered all divisional police officers, whose jurisdictions covered the expressway to relocate their offices to the highways and personally lead police patrol teams.
“With this trend of adequate patrol and monitoring, the command will definitely accord necessary and required security to all road users along the major highways in Ogun.
“The command urges road users to always get across to the police when they noticed any unusual blockage or traffic obstruction along the Ogun expressways,“ the command stated.
Adejobi advised road users and residents of Ogun to alert the police upon suspecting unusual movements or any robbery attacks by calling him on telephone No. 08037168147.
He said that the police control room could be reached on telephone No. 080322136765and the quick response squad on No. 08053253156.
Meanwhile, Adejobi said the police were making efforts to recover the Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the Ogun Correspondents’ Chapel of Ogun, NUJ, which was stolen.
