Lawmaker Call For National Conference

A legislator, Sunday Adepoju, representating Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has emphasised the need for national conference as the only way to address the nation’s problem.

Adepoju stated this during a visit to the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel, Omitowoju, Ibadan.

He pointed out that the decision of some Nigerians not to allow the convocation of a national conference was the wish of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which has the majority members in the House of Representatives.

Stressing that it is extremely difficult for the minority in the House to have its way on the issue, the legislator said: “Anybody that thinks that the National Assembly will solve the problem is just joking. The PDP-led government has the majority in the House. Whether we like it or not, we are able to stamp our feet and say no on some issues just because we have those that are well focused in the opposition. But the PDP-led government will not like that. That is what is happening in the National Assembly.”

He said national conference cannot be compromised as it is in the interest of the nation, adding that those opposed to it do so for selfish reasons.

Adepoju lamented that the majority of those who do not want dialogue lack the intellectual capacity to proffer solution to national problem.
