The inaugural edition of the Lagos Aids Walk (LAW) will take place soon with a concert that will parade prominent artistes such as Banky W, 9ice, Funke Akindele, JJC, Chidinma and Sound Sultan.
The event is expected to bring together major stakeholders in Lagos for a show of compassion and solidarity towards people living with HIV & AIDS. Political leaders, religious and community leaders, corporate organisations, civil society organisations, students as well as artistes will embark on the 10km walk, starting from the Ebute Meta end of the Third Mainland Bridge through Carter/Adeniji Adele Bridge in Lagos.
To lead the walk is the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola. He will be accompanied by the erstwhile Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the former president of Zambia, Kenneth Kaunda who also lost one of his sons to HIV/AIDS. Others to lead the walk are the popular founder of the wave-making Lagos church, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of the Trinity House.
The concert will afford the artistes an opportunity to speak on the need for people, especially the youths, to live a safe and healthy life with regards to their sexuality. At the concert, free HIV testing and counselling will also be conducted and safe sex campaign materials will be distributed.
