Obesere Escapes Death
What could have been another tragedy in the Nigerian entertainment industry was averted as popular Fuji musician, Abass Akande otherwise known as Obesere narrowly escaped death in an auto crash on Easter Sunday, 8 April, 2012.

The musician was said to have been involved in the auto crash with his Lexus LX470 automobile with registration number UY 01 KJA on his way to Lagos from a musical engagement in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Obesere’s media aide, Soji Omotayo, confirmed the incident to P.M.Entertainment, adding that the crashed automobile is now a write-off.
P.M.Entertainment gathered that Obesere had performed at Top 1 Hotel on Saturday night till the early hours of Sunday, and on his way back to Lagos at about 7:30 pm, the accident occurred when his driver identified as Femi lost control of the automobile and rammed into a tree.
Obesere, his driver and two other persons in the vehicle sustained injuries and have been receiving treatment at Orisunmade Hospital, Jakande Estate, Isolo, Lagos.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations that the driver was drunk when the incident occurred, but in a swift response, the musician said: “Femi doesn’t take alcohol and when we go to shows like that I always give him time to rest and he doesn’t partake in our music performance. I was even having a phone call with my eyes on him when the jeep swerved into the bush. It was a terrible incident, but I thank God nobody died.”
While friends and well-wishers have continued to sympathise with him over the sad incident, Obesere, who recently waxed an album for former Lagos State governor and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mark his 60th birthday, said he has, however, adopted the nickname of the astute politician, Jagaban following the accident.
