Applause For Lagos Tennis Clinic
The recently concluded 1st Annual Lagos State Tennis Association Coaching Clinic, held at the tennis court of the National Stadium, Lagos has been lauded by parents, participants and tennis administrators in the state.
The clinic, which was aimed at catching tennis players young, was attended by students from Junior Secondary Schools one downwards, as the amateur players enjoyed themselves on the tennis court.
Speaking to Tennis Special on why the association held the clinic, Technical Director of the Association, Kehinde Ajayi, said that it was majorly to discover future talents from the grassroots for the state.
“The Lagos State Tennis Association decided to start from the grassroots and the only way we can do that is by trying to catch them young. This is the very first coaching clinic we have organised and we hope it continues like this.”
“We hope to start weekend programmes for these young ones for continuity. We also intend to have clubs participation so that everyone will be involved,” Ajayi said.
Speaking in the same vein, First Vice-Chairman of the Tennis Association, Prince Olateru Olagbegi.
He said: “The essence of the clinic is to “catch them young”. Once they are on holidays, we’ll organise clinics like this to keep them busy and monitor them. The association also hopes to extend this to the senior tennis players to get the best from the state.”
Meanwhile, the coaches at the clinic have praised the children for responding well to the drilling, stating that they were impressed by their performances at the clinic.
