LASIEC Holds Re-Run Election In Mushin

Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled Saturday, 5 May, 2012, for the re-run election in Ward H –(Oduselu/Ola), Mushin Local Government Area, Lagos, southwest, Nigeria.

A statement issued by Ronke Famakinwa, head of Electoral Education and Publication Department, stated that the state commission’s chairman, Justice Abdul Fatai Afolabi Adeyinka (retd), said the re-run became necessary due to the violence and inconclusiveness of the election as declared by Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.

Elections were conducted into 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas on Saturday, 22 October, 2011.

A total of 28 political parties participated in the elections. However, one of the candidates vying for the Councillorship seat in ward H – (0duselu/Ola) filed a petition at the ongoing State Elections Petition Tribunal sitting at Lagos High Court, challenging the inconclusiveness as declared by LASIEC.

The tribunal, however, ordered LASIEC to organise a re-run election not later than 90 days from the day of the ruling, into the councillorship seat of Ward H (Oduselu/Ola) in Mushin Local Government Area.

The commission’s chairman emphasized that the re-run election will be conducted using Open-Secret-Open Ballot System.

He further informed that the commission would put everything in place to ensure a successful conduct of the election.

He called on the electorate within the ward to participate fully and shun violence and other vices that may mar the election.
