Olympic Beach Volleyball: Nigeria For Qualifier In Italy

Nigeria’s Men beach volleyball team, that finished third at the London Olympics qualifier held in Mauritius last week, would have another chance when they compete at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup in Torino Italy in June.

Although, Nigeria failed to grab an automatic ticket to London 2012 during the major qualifiers in Mauritius, the team made it to Italy after finishing third at the CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

Nigeria defeated Congo Brazzaville in four straight matches to qualify for the Italian tourney, slated to hold from 27 June to 1 July, 2012. It is the last Olympic qualification tournament for Nigeria after Angola beat them 4-0 in the semi-final in Mauritius.

Speaking on their chances in Italy, Chairman, Nigeria Beach Volleyball Commission, Musa Nimrod said: “We are still hopeful of qualification knowing fully well that we have to finish among the first five teams in Italy to book our place to London.”

South Africa emerged the first country to seal their place to London after their men’s team clinched a ground-breaking victory over Angola in the final in Flic en Flac Beach, Mauritius on Sunday.
