Zenith Bank League: Deepwater Eye Title In Ilorin
D defending champions of the Zenith Bank-sponsored Nigeria Women’s Basketball League, First Deepwater Basketball Club of Lagos are set to consolidate their position on the log of the league with the second phase set to dunk-off today in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The coach Lateef Erinfolami -tutored side won all their matches in the first phase held in Kaduna last month as they maintained their leadership in the domestic league.
A confidence-booming Erinfolami told P.M Sports in a chat before they departed Lagos for venue of the tourney on Monday that they are gunning for a third straight title in Ilorin, stressing that their target is to book a place in the FIBA-Africa Zone-3 elimination slated for Liberia in August/ September.
Club chairman, Babatunde Babalola, urged the players and their handlers to ensure they win the title in the second phase so as to make the third phase scheduled for Lagos later in the year a mere formality.
Reigning Most Valuable Player of the league, Nkechi Akashili, on her part, said: “We are raring to go and all we can promise our teeming fans and the management is that we will do our best to make sure we win all matches just like we did in the first phase in Kaduna.”
