3 Arraigned Over NAFDAC Label Forgery

Three men, who allegedly forged NAFDAC label and sold some substandard products, were on Thursday charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The trio, Sunday Nwadozie, 25; Sunday Ani, 22 and Stanley Obah, 23 are standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, conversion and possession of fake products.

The accused, whose addresses were unknown, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighadalo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 17 at Idumota on Lagos Island.

He said the men were allegedly found selling fake and substandard tooth brushes, bearing forged NAFDAC label.

According to Ighodalo, the label is the property of M/S A. U. Humph Nig. Ltd.

He said the accused converted about N180, 000 being proceeds from the sale of the tooth brush to their own use.

The offences contravened Sections 158, 285, 363 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, the prosecutor said.

In her ruling, Magistrate Badejo Okunsanya granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

The case has been adjourned till May 16 for further hearing.
