Coollink Plans New Internet Satellite Launch

Coollink in partnership with YAHSAT has concluded plans to launch a new satellite services that is fast, reliable affordable and will affect the way Nigerians access the internet.

Coollink Chief Operations Officer, Shahin Nouri, who presented the product tagged Yahclick to stakeholders and partners on Wednesday in Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, said the development was necessary considering that many Nigerians do not have affordable bandwidth.

He explained that Yahclick was an initiative of Abu Dhabi-based YAHSAT, which launched its Y1A communications satellite over the Middle East in April 2011.

He said the product is cost effective because it uses smaller antenna and service plants that will carter for multiple users.

Nouri listed other unique features of the products to include a wide coverage that is beyond the reach of terrestrial systems, saying that it eliminates infrastructural investments that slow rollout of broadband services.

“Yahclick is a perfect broadband option for those who can’t get ADSL or are still on dial up or only have access to fluctuating wireless services. It is suited to companies with multiple branches in outlying areas as well as those companies that requires backup services in case of an outage.

Nouri stated that the product offered download speeds of up to 10Mbps and upload speeds of up to 3Mbps. He said that while the traditional satellite technology utilises broad band single beams covering entire continents and regions, Yahclick Ka-band spot beams provide coverage over a highly targeted areas which simply means more reliability, greater efficiencies on the ground, smaller antennas and lower costs for the end users, as well as elimination of issues with spectrum availability.

“The Yahclick Ka-band consumer and business broadband service complements Coolink’s vision of providing the widest possible range of telecommunications products and services to consumers and businesses.”
