Government College, Ibadan, Old Boys Cricket Club, GCIOBACC, are the new Nigerian champions after they dethroned BRF Cricket Club, who had been holding on to the crown in the last few years.

GCIOBACC proved their supremacy over the BRF team in the final of the Iris Smart Technologies Club Cricket Committee, CCC Super 4, which was played at the Cricket Oval, Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday.

GCIOBACC sealed their victory in 187 to 185 wicket amidst cheers and loud ovation from dignitaries who included Enitan Oshodi, Lagos State Commissioner for Sports; Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Principal Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola; Mr. Olayinka Fisher, MD, Iris Smart Technologies Ltd.; Kwesi Sagoe, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation; George Wiltshere, General Manager of the federation, Kofi Sagoe, chairman of Lagos State Cricket Association and management team of the CCC, as well as students and fans of the sport.

Oshodi, who was the special guest at the event, commended the effort of the CCC to ensure that cricket does not die in the country.

He said that the state government would continue to assist cricket association in the state.

Fisher, whose company has been sponsoring the CCC League in the past 10 years, reinstated Iris Smart Technologies’ continue support to the League.

Tournament Coordinator of the CCC, Ephraim Barnaby, told P.M.Sports that the success, of the 2011/2012 season was achieved because of the commitment of all the stakeholders.

Other champions of the season are BRF, who are the Division 1 champions and Rocks Cricket Club, the Division 2 champions.
