Nigerian Leaders Urged To Be Prudent
Nigerian leaders, lawmakers and members of the political class have been warned against unrealistic budgeting and reckless spending.
Deputy Managing Director, Bagco Nigeria Plc, Mr. Abiodun Ogunkoya while speaking with newsmen at the recently concluded 2012, 6th Annual Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West, Methodist Church Nigeria, hosted by the Palm Avenue Circuit, Mushin Lagos.
The financial expert, scholar and renown administrator also enjoined them to rule with the fear of God, through the formulation of humane policies to make life meaningful for the electorate.
Ogunkoya warned Nigerian leaders and those in authority against the bloated budgeting and reckless spending, which he regarded as the real problem of Nigeria.
He urged lawmakers to be mindful of the human and financial resources before budgeting, to arrest the recurring deficit in the economy every year.
Ogunkoya lamented that reckless spending usually militated against the realistic expectations of the poor masses that voted them to power.
On the cashless economy, Ogunkoya urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to tread softly. He enjoined them to embark on an aggressive education of the masses on the advantages of the project.
He also reminded the Federal Government of the urgent need to revamp the power sector to put the economy on better footing.
In his message to the Synod, the governors of Lagos State Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, pleaded with Christians and other religious faithful, to assist his government with fervent prayers and continued co-operation.
Fashola reminded them on the need to assist the government in fulfilling their moral financial and spiritual obligations.
Governor Fashola while appreciating the timely importance of this year’s Synod theme “Behold, I will do a new thing” further enjoined them not to relax on their oars, to forge ahead to turn around the fortunes of others and make the state of Excellence a reference point for others.
