PGA Opens Entry For School Tour

The Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria, PGA, has announced that application for the 2013 PGA School Tour has commenced, and interested players have till 29 June, 2012 to apply.

Emerging from their executive meeting in Lagos, the PGA said the delay to start receiving entry is in an attempt to put next year’s admission process in a better frame. The PGA Tour School is the association’s laid down one week process for testing and admitting intending amateur players (usually category one players) into the professional class.

Tournament Director, Dominic Andrew said that, stemming from the last episode in Asaba, Delta State in 2011 January, there are quite a number of factors the association are considering to put in place so that the next edition will produce better athletes at the end of the event.

“We were cautious of time and that is why even when it was declared open we had to agree to a deadline for the last application to be sent in,” he said.

In 2011, 57 players entered for the qualifying school that was hosted at the Ibori Golf and Country Club in Asaba, where four foreign professionals too had sent in entry.

The coming edition, which venue has not been named, may also feature foreign professional’s entry as findings reveal that about four professional golfers from two different countries have already sent in application ahead of time.
