Two of the hoodlums who clubbed a police officer, Mr. Nwachi Kings, to death in Onitsha, Anambra State, have been arrested.
Kings, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), Onitsha was until his death the Administrative Officer of the station.
The incident took place at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) round-about, Onitsha, when he led a patrol team to the area.
Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the killing of the officer by some hoodlums.
Chukwuemeka, however, said that he was yet to be properly briefed on the matter.
A reliable source told newsmen that a six-man robbery gang had swooped on a police patrol team, led by the deceased at the round-about and attacked them.
“The hoodlums attacked the policemen and hit Kings with a big stick, which made him unconscious.
“After much squabble, two of the hoodlums were arrested, while the others escaped from the scene of the incident.
“DSP Kings was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he died later,” the source stated.
Mr. Yusuf Abdul, the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of police station in Onitsha, told newsmen that he had transferred the matter to Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.
