5 Land Speculators Docked For Attempted Murder
Five land speculators were on Tuesday docked at an Ikorodu magistrates’ court for alleged attempted murder.
The accused are Mukaila Salau, 34; Ahmed Salau, 21; Usman Toheeb, 22; Bolaji Kelani, 23; and Jamiu Gboyega, 18.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Iyabode Johnson, told the court that the accused, with others at large, attempted to kill one Monsuru Owoyalumo by firing a gunshot at him, though the shot missed its target.
She said the accused on 16 April at Agunfoye village, Ikorodu, were found in unlawful possession of a locally-made gun, expended cartridges, a police belt and seven cutlasses.
The prosecutor said the accused had no licence to bear such arms.
Johnson added that the accused persons also had in their possession some charms.
She said that the offence was committed at on April 14, at Obun-Ale in Ikorodu.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 79 (a), 133 (b), 228, 231, 238 (d), 310 (d) and 328, Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge of conspiracy, attempted murder and unlawful possession.
Magistrate Olufunke Hamzat granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties of each of the accused must be a blood relation.
She adjourned the case till 5 May for further hearing.
