Glo Backs Clubs For Federation Cup
Major partner of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and Federation Cup sponsor, Globacom has urged all the clubs participating in the competition to put in their best as the competition for Local Government champions intensifies.
The 2012 Glo Federation Cup has commenced across the country with different teams jostling to qualify from the preliminary rounds to the next stage of the competition. The competition is presently taking place across the 774 Local Government Areas of the country, from where a team will each emerge to compete for the two tickets for the state finals.
Globacom called on various clubs participating in the competition to put in their best as the competition for Local Government champions intensifies. Globacom in a statement urged the teams to rekindle the flame of the old Challenge Cup and bring back the sweet memories of the past when healthy rivalry existed between the likes of Rangers International of Enugu, IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Bendel Insurance, and defunct Stationery Stores of Lagos, Raccah Rovers of Kano, Abiola Babes of Abeokuta, New Nigerian Bank of Benin, Mighty Jets of Jos and Leventis United of Ibadan among others.
Globacom further noted that past Federation Cups in the seventies and eighties (then known as either FA or Challenge Cup) produced outstanding players like Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, Babaotu Mohammed and Adokie Amaesimeka who formed the bulk of Nigeria’s national team (former Green Eagles). The company also urged the team managers and administrators to motivate their players towards winning the 2012 Federation Cup sponsored by Glo.
The winner of 2012 Federation Cup will represent Nigeria in the next edition of CAF Confederation Cup.
