Lagos ACN Condemns Boko Haram Attack On ThisDay
The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has condemned, in the strongest terms, the bombing of offices of some media organizations in Abuja and Kaduna by the Boko Haram sect. the party describes this as the height of bestiality, which stands to further diminish the sect and whatever it is fighting for.
In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party says it sees nothing ennobling in visiting so much harm and damage on media houses which serve the interests of all Nigerians.
It advises Boko Haram to embrace peace and dialogue as a way of solving the many problems that presently trouble Nigeria.
“We do not see any sense in the latest action of Boko Haram and we refuse to see any reason for such act of bestiality that targets the media, which has been able to serve the cause and interest of all shades of opinions in the roiling Nigerian polity. We will not approve a situation where the media is made a target in what is obviously a political battle and we condemn in the strongest terms, any attack that targets the media, as the latest attack is.
“We want to state that Boko Haram is overstretching its luck with Nigerians and time has come for it to censor itself. Yes, it has been able to prove the impotence of the present Nigerian government and its security agencies but it should not pit itself against the Nigerian people for that will spell its waterloo. We believe that time has come for Boko Haram to articulate its demands, with those of other disparate groups that ogle at the soul of the troubled Nigerian nation and seek solution of those problems and the attending to those demands, with those of other groups within a peaceful ambit that will enhance our collective strength,” the party said.
It added: “Lagos ACN is of the firm view that a total overhaul of the country’s security agencies is long over due and we believe that time has come for all Nigerians to sit at the roundtable and discuss the structure of the wobbling federation, with a view to strengthening the stakes of every member of the Nigerian union. We do not see how the activities of Boko Haram will enhance this collective or their own individual strength. So we demand an immediate ceasefire from them while every effort should be made to work out a functional country where every person’s interest will be met.
“We commiserate with the affected media organizations and we urge them to bear their fate with that spirit of sacrificing to make Nigeria better.”
