Rivers NUJ Condemns Bomb Attack On Media
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has condemned the bombing of the offices of ThisDay, The Sun and The Moment Newspapers in Abuja and Kaduna, Thursday by Boko Haram.
The Council said it views the attack on the media houses as an attack on the masses of Nigeria and an attempt to suppress freedom of information and strongly believe that journalists are no longer safe in the country.
“We commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incidents and pray that Almighty God to give them the fortitude to bear the painful loss,” it said.
The council says it believes that time has come for the various levels of government in Nigeria to effectively address the security threats posed by the activities of Boko Haram as well as other security challenges facing the country.
“We therefore call on security agencies in the country to do their best to protect journalists who have dedicated their lives for the protection of the country’s democracy and the rights of every Nigerian.”
