Nigeria police probe killing of an officer
Nigeria’s Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of a Divisional Police Officer, Mr Okey Ofoedu, killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen.
Public Relations Officer, DSP. Ebere Amaraizu said that Ofoedu was heading to the Oji River Police Division before his death. He said that Ofoedu was shot and killed on April 28, by the gunmen while returning from an engagement at Ojinator on the Awka-Oji River Old Road by ROI Filling Station.
The PPRO added that four assailants, who operated in a Passat car trailed Ofoedu to a point where they shot him several times while attempts by a medical doctor to revive him proved abortive.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Musa Daura, who described the incident as unfortunate assured that the command, in partnership with other security agencies would do everything possible to bring the culprits to book.
He appealed to officials and men of the command not to be demoralised by the incident. The body of the deceased has been deposited at a hospital for postmortem.
