Governor pledges aid to Nigeria’s bomb victims
Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Nigeria’s Kano State has promised to foot the medical bill of the victims of Sunday bomb blast at Bayero University Kano (BUK).
Kwankwaso, who made this known when he visited the scene on Sunday, directed public and private hospitals in Kano to ensure that victims were treated satisfactorily.
He described the attack as unfortunate and gave the assurance that the state and Federal Government would continue to ensure that peace and harmony prevail in the state.
Kwankwaso, who also cut short his official trip to Abuja, regretted the attack, especially at a time peace was gradually returning to the state capital.
He commiserated with the university authorities and its community over the incident.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yahuza Bello, said some of the worshippers were attacked in an indoor sports hall of the university.
Bello, who conducted the governor round the scene of the incident, said the victims were using the hall as temporary place of worship when they were attacked.
He also told the governor that those injured were receiving treatment in various hospitals in the city.
Kano had witnessed several bombings by the Boko Haram sect, including the 20 January multiple attacks that claimed close to 200 lives.
