President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, HFN, Dauda Yusuf, has expressed satisfaction over the National U-19 Handball Championship concluded recently at Gingiya Stadium, Sokoto.
The HFN boss said the tourney, which featured male and female teams from the 36 States of the federation was used to discover young players for future senior national teams.
Yusuf revealed that the federation intends to monitor the players for a while before they are integrated into the senior national teams.
“I am happy with the outcome of the championship because the federation achieved its goal, which was to discover young male and female players that we can groom for the senior national teams in the near future,” said Yusuf.
Yusuf further said: “Our Technical Department discovered talented young players at the championship, who have the potential to play for the senior national teams. But, they must be well-groomed and properly monitored .”
“We will begin to monitor the players. That’s the initial target of the federation and we are happy for being able to achieve it.”
The tournament was organised by the HFN in conjuction with the Sokoto State Goverment.
