'Education Is My Priority'

A 300 Level Business Administration and Management student of Lagos City Polytechnic, Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Olaitan Usman Badmus, a.k.a. B’Lait the Lover Boi, has said that his music career will not in any way hamper his academics.

According to the 22-year-old Afro Hip hop act, “education is the best legacy that any parent would want to leave for his children. It is also what one can reliably fall back on in the future, hence my decision to make my academics my priority.

B’Lait whose debut single and video titled: Lover Boi, is currently enjoying air play on television and radio stations across the country, said he started music some years ago but professionally in the year 2000, adding that the journey has been rough and tough.

“It has been rough and tough but I give thanks to Almighty Allah for where I am now. Music has always been food to my soul, something that I have wanted to do because of the passion I have for it.

“Therefore, I really take my time to figure out the kind of music that I can play for people to understand. I then chose to be an Afro Hip Hop artiste. I’m not just a musician but also an instrumentalist. I play the keyboard too,” he said.

The Ibadan, Oyo State-born studio engineer cum producer, said further that he has worked with Dokta Frabz as a studio engineer for a year, adding that the experience gave him the opportunity to work with some notable Nigerian artistes.

“This gave me the courage that I can I do it. So I took a step from there. On the same journey, I met the CEO of my record label, Big Hit Records, Mr. Oluwatobi Ahmeed Oladipupo, who signed me up as his artiste cum producer. Afterwards, I came up with the single, Lover Boi, and shot the video.
